Mahalia Jackson was a very famous Gospel singer. Mom (Helen Beck-Case) wrote many gospel songs and she was visiting with Mahalia Jackson to see if she would record them.
There is no date on this picture but I think it was in the 60s. The handwriting on the insert is from the back of the picture - written to Mom from Mahalia Jackson: "To my very good friend, Mahalia Jackson."
